I am an integral and transpersonal psychology doctoral candidate at the California Institute of Integral Studies doing a study investigating the impact of imagination techniques on people who have a history of trauma. This no-cost, non-invasive, drug-free experience involves using your imagination and creativity in a confidential, private setting, to safely interact with aspects of the mind. The study will support scientific research in better understanding how traumatic symptoms are shaped by the mind and how they may be safely engaged. The benefits of participation may include a better understanding of traumatic symptoms and effective self-care practices that may reduce symptoms of distress.
Participation would entail:
1) Click "Submit Contact Information" button below so I can call or e-mail you. All Information provided will be completely confidential.
2) Answer some Yes/No and a few multiple choice questions to see if you qualify for the study.
3) Once you quality for the study, answer multiple choice questions about your current/recent wellbeing, mental state, and areas of life effected by trauma (You will never be asked to recount an event or specific details and the only questions about trauma are in the questionnaires, not in person). Questions will be completed through a confidential website, requiring approximately 15-30 minutes.
4) Participate in one private active imagination session a week for four weeks. During the active imagination sessions you will be asked to relax and let an image arise in your mind, to give the image form through your choice of art or expression (for example, writing it down, drawing, painting, sculpting, or movement), and to apply what is learned to your daily life (simple writing material, clay, and drawing supplies will be provided). The sessions will last 30-60 minutes each and will take place at the California Institute of Integral Studies (1453 Mission St, San Francisco, CA 94103) or a private, pre-arranged, office.
5) One week after completing the four active imagination sessions, again answer multiple choice questions about your current/recent wellbeing, mental state, and areas of life effected by trauma, requiring approximately 15-30 minutes, followed by 30-60 minutes to answer interview questions about your experience using the same website.
If you are interested, please click the button below. I will contact you to determine if you are eligible for the study. I need your full name, age, simple demographic information, and either a phone number or e-mail address. If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to share them with me. All information is strictly confidential and the results of the study will be anonymous.
